Dixie Carter: Julia Sugarbaker Tells It Like It Is

Actress Dixie Carter, who is perhaps best known for her role as Julia Sugarbaker on the sitcom Designing Women, has passed away at the age of 70. As a tribute, here is one of her greatest speeches. Designing Women was (like The Golden Girls) part of a ground-breaking 1980's quality sit-com era that showcased professional women, which was culturally important. Of course, Designing Women, also had its serious problems, like their at times progressive at times seriously regressive use of their one black, male character Anthony. Anthony's place in that show is worthy of a post itself, but that's for another day. Today, we applaud Ms. Carter for her career and her life.
