Mila Kunis & Natalie Portman Starve for their Art?!?

Both Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis plummeted their already skinny BMI's into starvation territory for their latest film, The Black Swan, about anorexic ballet dancers. Kunis said that her family "freaked out" and "started panicking" when they saw her after five months of hard dieting to under 95lbs. Director Darren Aronofsky "recently admitted he became so worried about Portman's weight loss , he begged the skinny actress to eat."

Kunis probably had the most interesting quote when she said:

"I could see why this industry is so f**ked up, because at 95 pounds, I would literally look at myself in the mirror and I was like, 'Oh my God! I had no shape, no boobs, no a**... All you saw was bone. I was like, 'This looks gross'. But in photographs and on film, it looked amazing..."

She also said that gaining the weight back was emotionally difficult because the extreme dieting had altered her comfort with her previous (very thin, but not starving) shape.

Now, Christian Bale nearly starved himself for "The Machinist" and then packed on the muscle and pounds when he played Batman the next year. Usually when you hear about an actor altering their weight for a role, its the other way around. Renee Zwelliger is "brave" for gaining 30lbs and Tom Hanks had tons of fun gaining weight for "A League of their Own," but this weight-loss of already thin actresses into menses losing levels seems quite dangerous. Bad job, Hollywood.

Miranda Kerr Walks The Runway Five Months Pregnant!

It is sad that the media believes this is amazing. In every day life women have to work until days before the pregnancy. Some even have to go back days after their pregnancy if they want to get paid. Also, her "5 month pregnant look" is like the "average chick look".

Meet Hollywood's Black Best Friends

She's black, smart, female and usually "sassy." And her primary function in a movie is to act as the main (white) character's conscience, offering advice no one asked for at the exact moment it's needed. The Root takes a look at some of Hollywood's reigning BBFs.

Click on the link above to read about the Roots list of the top 10:

1. Viola Davis in 'Eat Pray Love'

Mischa Barton Slammed for Showing "Flabby Belly" in Too-Tight Pants

Barton, 24, showed off her curves in super-tight, pale yellow denim, bright red shoes and a midriff-baring top while on a Starbucks run Sunday afternoon.

Many of the blogs were commenting on her "Belly Issues". She had tight pants on, but she did not look Discovery Health fat in anyway. People need to mind their own business and realize when people misidentify weight issues it gives complexes to the people getting the comments as well as the people who read about it at home.

Post Oscar Complaints

1. It is awful all we can talk about post Oscars are the dresses. I feel that all those celebrity women need a round of applause for fitting in the dresses in the first place. That was not an easy task. It is very difficult to walk around in a mermaid skirt.

2. I am sick of them dogging Miley Cyrus. I know very few 17 year olds with good posture. I know even fewer adults with good posture.

3. Why isn't the focus on the acting?

Heidi Montag: My Surgeries Aren't an Addiction

Heidi Montag is quoted at saying the following when discussing the controversy about her recent cosmetic surgeries:

"I'm in a different industry," she said, "and I have to do things that are going to make me happy at the end of the day."

I'm living in my skin, and I look in the mirror and it's my career and my life, and you only have one. So, I want to take advantage of everything and be the best me, in and out, every way."

Heidi Montag is just an example of the Hollywood machine distorting another starlets reality. I feel sorry for her. I am just glad she didn't end up like Tara Reid and other celebrites with bad plastic surgery. Yet, if Heidi keeps at it she will end up like them.

Wynonna: "Too Soon" for Taylor Swift to Win Entertainer of the Year

"You want my honest comment? It’s too much too soon," the singer told USA Today before the show. "Time is God’s way of keeping everything from happening at once. It’s just too much of a good thing too soon."

"Now it’s over coffee breaks, the success, almost," she added. "You have to play catch up ... It's like the girl who wins an Oscar and she's under 20. What do you do from here?"

I agree with Wynonna. Hollywoods obsession with youth keeps creating these child stars such Miley Cyrus, Taylor Lautner, Brinteny Spears, and ect. Then we over sexualize them. The outfits they wear (booty-shorts, squines, low risers) would never fit into a classroom or office setting.

Then we tear them down in the media for the stupid mistakes lack of experience cause. I say we start protecting our children and better manage the enforcement of child labor laws.

Delta Style: Eve Wasn't a Size 6 and Neither Am I

I just finished reading Delta Burke's book Delta Style: Eve Wasn't a Size 6 and Neither Am I . I loved the book. It was very pro-self versus pro-plus size. She talks about how childhood experiences and how the Hollywood life made her do crazy things to be thin. She tells how age, experience, and therapy helped her come to love herself and apperciate her life and body more.

Here is a clip of Delta Burke as Susan Sugarbaker on Designing Women addressing her weight.

The Dangers of Detox Diets

Janelle Brown of Self describes the dangers of Detox Diets in this article. Here are the highlights:
  • Detoxes are bad if taken to extremes.
  • Detoxing is not an effective way to drop pounds for good.
  • A healthy "green" living diet should not be turned into a starving eating disorder.
  • Detox done the Hollywood way can cause dehydration and can compromise the immune system.
  • Repeated detoxing can lead to yo-yo dieting.
  • Raw food diets without guidance on how to get all nutrients can lead to malnutrition on other health problems.
  • Using supplements with no FDA approval during a Detox can magnify all the problems a detox can cause.

Alicia Silverstone: Eating Well Can Help the Planet

Alicia Silverstone has a profile up over at Health.com regarding her Vegan Diet and her upcoming book: The Kind Diet.

Alicia Silverstone has been a long-time Vegan. She presents her diet as primarily an ethical choice and as a matter of fact, she had something very interesting to say regarding diet recommendations as they relate to health:

"I didn't come at it, honestly, from a health point of view. I was 21 when I went vegan. And when anybody told me to be healthy, I thought people were just telling me [to lose weight] because I'm in this business. So I was like, 'Go F yourself!' [Laughs.] Yet when I look at those pictures from back then, I can see the puffiness in my eyes. It's weird to be 32 now and feel and look younger. . . . Right after I first made the switch to a plant-based diet, people were literally telling me, 'What have you done? You’re sparkling.'"

I think that it is rather interesting that talking about "health" in Hollywood, the assumption is: lose weight, get skinnier. This is one of the most honest interviews with a Hollywood star I've seen in a long time. One criticism, the author of the article seems to dwell on "naked gardening" as part of quirky, Vegan behavior. Silverstone is quirky and she owns up to stripping down naked while gardening to jump into the pool, which seems not too crazy to me, but I think that emphasizing this point tries to paint those crazy Vegans as "out there" to calm the minds of the "regular" people reading so that they can dis-associate the more logical, clear minded things Silverstone says regarding her concern for the environment and animal rights.

I leave you with one last, intelligent quote of Silverstone's:

On why she wrote the book: "Once you're informed, then you can be really gentle and kind to yourself, by giving yourself all the gifts life has to offer — like mental clarity and vitality — all while making the planet better."
