"Results Not Typical" No Longer Allowed in Diet Program Ads?

So, apparently, the Federal Trade Commission has decided that the warning "Results Not Typical" will no longer be allowed to be used in diet industry program advertisements.

Does this mean that Valerie Bertinelli and her cohorts will lose their sweet (pun intended) diet endorsement deals? I'm not hating on Valerie here--and that picture above of her in her bikini IS NOT TYPICAL of Jenny Craig clients. It may mean that diet programs will have to specify exactly what their celebrity endorsers did to attain their "not typical" results--like working out at the gym six days a week for four hours with a personal trainer in addition to their products/system. Or, might it mean doing more endorsement deals like Queen Latifah did with Weight Watchers where she lost her 10% and is therefore "less fat" but by no means a skinny-minny? That success seems more typical to me.

Sherri Shepherd Still Has Jiggly Thighs

Sherri Shepherd is quoted as saying:

"I'm a real woman. I still have my jiggly arms and jiggly thighs that could start a fire," The View co-host, 42, said at the New York Film Festival screening of her movie Precious, which opens nationally Nov. 6. "I'm not trying to look like Kim Kardashian, unless I can get a Lamar Odom like Khloe," she joked.

So far she has some perspective about her weight loss. Hopefully she stays that way. Sometimes losing weight can send you into an eating disorder. I am happy for her. Showing the health-based wait loss doesn't always equal a bikini. Note: she wore a one piece on The View.

Kathy Griffin: Plastic Surgery and Diet Pill Confessions

In this article, Kathy Griffin discusses the pressure for body modification working in Hollywood even as a comedian. She talks about how she has gone to extremes with plastic surgery as well as crash diets.

Yet, she finally concedes that diet and exercise got her in the bikini she is in now and not the botched liposuction.

Cindy Crawford at 43: "I Have Cellulite"

Cindy Crawford admits her body isn't quite perfect at 43.

"I have cellulite," she says while laughing in the September issue of Redbook. "I admit it. But sometimes I just say, 'Screw it, I am going to wear a bikini.'"

Well, I am glad Cindy Crawford is living her life in the dreaded Bikini definition of thin even with cellulite. Personally of the paparazzi didn't take pictures of people on private boats she wouldn't even have to mention her cellulite to the masses.

A Brief History of the Bikini

Sixty years ago this week, the world's first bikini made its debut at a poolside fashion show in Paris. The swimsuit is now so ubiquitous that it's hard to comprehend how shocking people once found it. When the bikini first arrived, its revealing cut scandalized even the French fashion models who were supposed to wear it; they refused, and the original designer had to enlist a stripper instead. Click here to read a slide show that explains how the bikini slowly gained acceptance—first on the Riviera, then in the United States—and became a beachfront staple.

Here is where the Bikini became the dagger that it is for the end result of diet prefection.

The bikini certainly complemented the va-va-voomery of Raquel Welch and her peers, who tended to be busty and a little soft in the middle. (In early bikini shots, stomachs are often evidently sucked in.) But the 1970s saw the rise of models like Cheryl Tiegs, who possessed the athletic figure that, for the most part, remains in vogue today. The advent of this lean ideal led many women to wonder: Who, exactly, should wear the bikini? In the 1960s, Emily Post decreed, "It is for perfect figures only, and for the very young." Since then, though, a number of swimwear designers (most notably Malia Mills) have encouraged women of all ages and body types to take up the style.

Marissa Jaret Winokur Tries to Say 'No' to Fries

The Tony-winning actress, 36, recently admitted that though she didn't give birth to her 11-month-old son Zev (who was carried via a surrogate), she has put on pounds since his arrival. "You don't actually have to carry the baby to gain the weight," Winokur tells PEOPLE.

Now on a mission to get back in the shape she was in while appearing on Dancing with the Stars, Winokur (whose Oxygen show premieres June 29) has returned to exercising and has a goal: to appear in a bikini in the pages of PEOPLE.

Here is another person whose fitness goal is to be in on display in a bikini. Why can't more people have goals like:
1. I want to play with my kids in the park
2. Fit into the skinny people coffin ( my personal goal)
3. Shop in the mall all day with out taking a break.
4. Walk into my closets and know that all my close fit after a weekend with friends.

I think the bikini goal is causing a lot of heartache for the American dieter and I am going to say to all those who are wondering:

It is OK to have a weight loss goal that doesn't include a bikini.

Julia Roberts Shows Off Bikini Body

Julia Roberts, 41, showed off her toned bikini body in Hawaii on Monday while vacationing with her husband, Danny Moder, and their three kids, 3-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and 1-year-old son, Henry.

I think that people put to much emphasis on the ability to where a bikini. I have a burn mark on my tummy. So even when I get to my goal weight a bikini will still not look good on me. So the bikini and/or the ability to run the NYC marathon can't be the gold standard of health and beauty. I think we need to find more attainable and sustainable goals to measure our success.
