Ask Dr. Gilda: Am I Too Big for Love?

Dr. Gilda Carle, Ph.D. comments on a reader wonders whether men will ever see past her weight.

Click on the link above to view her own words. Below is the paraphrase:

If you love yourself, you will surround yourself with those who love you and you will find love.

I agree with the her sentiment. As a fat person, I have always dated. I even got married. I also have a cast of thousands hooting and hollering at me in NYC.

I am not saying I have never been rejected due to weight. If I only get a 1,000 hoots in NYC, with over 8 million people walking around that means my body type is not the ideal.

Yet, I believe you only need one husband and you don't have to become a pinup girl to get him.

So if you respect yourself and have something to offer relationship. Like being a complete person without a bunch of self-esteem issues you will find true love.

Gabourey Sidibe made the People's 100 Most Beautiful List

Gabourey Sidibe made People's 100 Most Beautiful list. Mediatakeout.com had some complaints about the list. I am happy for her and I think this is the start of beauty comes in more then one shape and color. I think she deserves to be on the list. I do agree more people could have been added to the list, but we remember part of being on the list is showing up for the photo shoot. So some of the choices could have been working and therefore not chosen. So I am going to give People Magazine some concession on the list.

Gabourey Sidibe for Actress in a Lead Role

Vanity Fair's Young Hollywood: All White & Thin Apparently!

So, according to Vanity Fair, Young Hollywood is all white and all thin. Somehow I'm not shocked that they forgot about breakout star, Gabourey Sidibe.

There is a great quote in Ebony where she addresses her outsider status in Hollywood:

"I don't try to live up to the standards of Hollywood or any of that – I know that I'm different and I celebrate it. In a weird way, I kind of really, really love being the alien in the room. I dig it."

Gosh, I hope she's nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Precious. I hope she wins. After all, are the Oscars about acting or beauty pageants sans the talent portion?
