First-Ever Plus-Size Show Hits N.Y.C. Fashion Week

People.com reports:

It wasn’t all stick-thin models ruling the runways during New York Fashion Week, as curvy stars like Nikki Blonsky, Gabourey Sidibe, model Emme and KayCee Stroh sat front row yesterday to take in the first-ever plus-size show during fashion’s most high-drama week. “This is a milestone in the plus-size community. We’ve never had anything like this,” Blonsky said at the OneStopPlus.com presentation on Wednesday. “To be in New York City Fashion Week, which I think is the biggest fashion week in the world, to be here is just a huge thing for us.” And plus-size model Emme, couldn’t have agreed more: “You have to join forces to make a statement and to be part of a revolution. It’s monumental in its reach,” Emme told PEOPLE, adding, “I think the big statement that’s going to be made with this fashion show is not only going to be made within the full-figured community but I think it’s going to talk to the bottom line of design houses, designers, and business people involved in fashion,” she said. “Why don’t we make clothes above a size 12? Why don’t we load heavier in sizes 14, 16, and 18 in stores? Just change the buying style and let it be curve-friendly in the line.” –Katherine Kluznik Rentmeester, reporting by Thailan Pham

I just found the COOLEST online dress store. The offer sizes 0-26W and in addition to "standard" sizes, they will custom the dress to your measurements. They ask for your bra size, your height, etc. As a petite person, the possibility of having a hem that says, just below the knee actually be "just below the knee" rather than mid-calf is awesome. The dresses seem to be about $49-$79, so they aren't cheap, but once again, they are tailored and the selection is amazing. Also, I like the fact that they do not segregate their "regular" sizes and their "plus size." Everything is available 0-26W and you can make sure that the hem and cup size reflects your particular figure as well. Many are work focused, some are day dresses and of course, they have a wide selection of "the little black dress" for evening. I'm really enjoying wearing my dresses from Old Navy to work and I'd like to expand my dress wardrobe because I think that they look professional, but not "power-suit" scratchy.

The Carpenter's Daughters: Big Girls Deserve Crazy, High-Fashion Choices Too

Below I've selected a few choice pieces from The Carpenter's Daughers a plus sized fashion house based out of New Zealand. The designers seem to be lovely, cheeky ladies who chose not only models from a variety of sizes, but ages and races as well. Some of the selections are very wearable, and some totally crazy in the vein of high-fashion (which is fine with me, big girls deserve to be as outrageous as skinny-minnies--here I'm not body-snarky the thin, just demanding equal opportunity high-jinks).
